142s Blue Sponge Pad - Twinpack from Aqua One - (25142s)
This is a genuine and original specification replacment 142s Blue Sponge Pad - Twinpack manufactured by Aqua One for use with Ocellaris 3000 and Ocellaris 3000-UV external canister filters, providing physical and biological filtration. The 142s Blue Sponge traps larger particles of aquarium waste, where they are more easily broken down by friendly nitrifying bacteria in your 25142s filter.
Replace every 6 months
142s Blue Sponges sit in the lower tray of your Ocellaris canister filter and work very hard to trap aquarium debris and waste where it can be broken down by friendly bacteria. Blue Sponge Pads have a larger cell structure than Black Sponge Pads and require regular cleaning to remove excess waste. Whilst it's possible to rinse and re-use the 142s Blue Sponge in your Ocellaris filter, it's best to replace every 6 months due to degredation of the cell structure.
Filter Maintenance
Once a month, (or sooner if you notice reduced waterflow) remove the impeller cover and check that this isn't blocked with aquarium waste and that the impeller can spin freely. Pipework and fitler taps should also be checked at this time to ensure that there are no blockages restricting waterflow. It's a good policy to check the condition of filter media pads on a regular basis as these will usually become clogged with aquarium waste fairly easily. Both Blue and Black sponges in a little aquarium water and re-use, replacing every 6 months or so. Polymer Wool Pads should be changed as necessary, usually every 4 to 6 weeks.
Changing the 142s Blue Sponge
Aqua One's Ocellaris canister filters are reasonably easy to service, so changing the 142s Blue Sponge isn't a difficult process. First of all disconnect the power supply, then turn the filter taps off. Unclip the four clamps that hold the head in place and separate the body and head. The 142s Blue Sponge is located in the lower tray of your Ocellaris Canister Filter. The Blue Sponge Pad should be changed every 6 months or sooner if the cell structure has become compressed enough to restrict waterflow.
